Minangkabau is the name of the largest ethnic group on Sumatra island in Indonesia, whose traditional homeland is the west central highlands. Although their majority are Muslim, the Minangkabau are matrilineal, tracing descent and inheritance through the female line. Those are the Women traditional dresses. The domestic unit was traditionally called by “Rumah Gadang” (Big House), which was under the control of a head woman, her sisters, their daughters, and their female children.
Singkarak also known for its endemic, the Bilih fish (Ikan Bilih). Locally, Singkarak Lake is famous for its Bilih fish which is a species of fish that only lives in this lake.
